When Your Father Has Dementia
You see a disease that knows no color or socioeconomic status.
When your father has dementia, you’re forced to put things into perspective. You no longer care about the petty concerns of society. You just want your father’s mind to come back.

You roll your eyes when you see headlines like, “3 Ways to Be Happy Now.” You know that article won’t make you happy. You know that the writer just wants your clickthroughs. The writer can’t help your father remember what he had for lunch.
You no longer care that Kim Kardashian posted a picture wearing OM earrings. You’re no longer outraged if a professional athlete posts something controversial.
These arguments are fruitless, and you know they won’t cure dementia or Alzheimer’s. They just add to your anger and suffering, so you no longer concern yourself with them.
